Come to the Kimbell Art Museum on Saturday, March 8 from 1 to 1:45 p.m. for their Kimbell Kids Drop-In Studio event. Meant for kids ages 12 and under, this free activity introduces children and their adult companions to fun and inspiring ways to enjoy art together. Each session features a brief gallery activity and a related studio art project. The theme for this week’s event is “Inside/Outside Sculpture.”
Space is limited to 20 kids plus adults. Sign up at the entrance to the education studios in the Renzo Piano Pavilion beginning one hour before the program.

School’s out next week! Keep the kids occupied and educate them at the same time with special Spring Break activities at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Fort Worth. From March 11-14 (Tuesday-Friday), visit the facility for special Employee Craftsmanship Demonstrations, which give kids an inside look at how money is made. You can:
- Witness Intaglio engraving artisanship at the engraver’s workbench.
- Learn about plate making for Offset printing presses.
- Enjoy the educational activities in the Kid$ Corral where children over 8 years old can engrave and print their very own currency design, and makes a fantastic free souvenir.
- See how currency was printed circa 1900 at the refurbished spider press.
- Learn how Intaglio printing plates are “grown” in a nickel solution.
This is a free event! The facility is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., but the Kid$ Corral and Create Your Own Currency activities happen from 9-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m.

Saturday, March 1 is the first day of the Fort Worth Botanic Garden’s Butterflies in the Garden, a monthlong celebration of butterflies! During the five-week exhibit, approximately 12,000, beautiful, exotic butterflies of every hue and size will be released in the conservatory. The theme for the 2014 exhibit is “Butterflies of Asia” and will feature butterflies such as the Archduke (Lexias pardalis), Paper Kite (Idea leoconoe), Great Mormon (Papilio memnon), and Striped Blue Crow (Euploea mulciber),all of which are from Malaysia.
Hours for the exhibit are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week. Admission is free for kids 2 and under; $6 for ages 3-12; $10 for ages 13-64; and $8 for seniors (65+).
