Free Ice Cream at Wal-Mart May 30

Category : Uncategorized

Stop by your local Wal-Mart tomorrow, May 30, because they’ll be handing out free ice cream from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during those hours. You can claim your single-serving-size carton of Ben & Jerry’s “Flipped Out,” an Aspen frozen yogurt treat from Blue Bunny, or a Dibs snack bag.

Click here before you venture out to check the store list and make sure yours is participating. There’s a limit of one per customer (translation: bring along the kids and spouse).

Save $12.50 at The Melting Pot

Category : Uncategorized

meltingpotDo you enjoy going to The Melting Pot fondue restaurant in Southlake? If so, set your alarm for midnight Sunday (technically June 1) because starting at that time, you can go online and buy certificates good for $25 worth of food there…for just $12.50! It’s part of the IncentRev “half offers,” sponsored by local TV station KDAF. A few bits of fine print: You can only use one certificate per visit, and the discount doesn’t include tax or gratuity. It’s good at the Southlake location, as well as the Dallas location on Belt Line Road.  There will be only 75 available for purchase, so act quickly!

IncentRev also has some other certificates for various restaurants (most in Dallas). Visit http://kdaf.incentrev.com for a complete listing.

To kill time before the certificates become available, sign up for The Melting Pot’s Club Fondue. You’ll get periodic offers in your e-mail for discounts and specials at your favorite Melting Pot location. You can find the link here.

Arby’s Weekend Kids Meal Deal

Category : dining, family, free

arbysYou know those little coupon inserts you get in the mail every week? It’s tempting to toss them, but you should really fish through them and find your Arby’s coupon sheet. This week, I got a flyer with coupons for a FREE kids meal when you buy an adult-sized combo at full price. Those kids’ meals aren’t cheap either – I’m thinking they’re about $3.79 – so if you’re going to do fast food over the weekend, Arby’s is the place to do it. Only a few caveats: You HAVE to have the coupon, and it’s only good on Saturdays and Sundays.

There are other good deals on there too, like a coupon that gives you 4 regular roast beef sandwiches for $5, and 2 Arby’s toasted subs for $5.

(OK, I really need to stop writing this entry now. I’m on the fourth day of a seven-day diet, and looking at the coupons has made me crave curly fries!)

Free Chocolate at Staples

Category : free, grocery

ghirardelliFree chocolate from an office-supply store? It sounds unlikely, but it’s true. Now through June 27, buy a bag of Ghirardelli Luxe Milk Chocolates at Staples and get $3.99 back through the Staples Easy Rebate program. It does have to be mailed in, but in my opinion, free chocolate is totally worth the price of a stamp! Just  visit www.stapleseasyrebates.com and select “Ghirardelli” as the manufacturer to print your form. Or, you can use the rebate form that will print at the register. Your materials should be postmarked by July 28.

In Fort Worth, you can find Staples at 1660 S. University Dr., and at 5650 Overton Ridge. There are also locations in NRH, Lake Worth, Arlington, Burleson, Watauga and Mansfield.

Half Off Fort Worth Hotels, Beauty, Restaurants and More!

Category : Uncategorized

How do you feel about half-price BBQ at Riscky’s? Or 50 percent off a weekend getaway at the Ashton Hotel downtown? Maybe you’d prefer getting $100 worth of services for $50 at Moda Salon and Spa. Whatever you’re into, you’re almost sure to find a discount on it with DFW.com’s awesome Half-Off Marketplace, which begins on June 1. Anytime from June 1-3, you can log on to the site and purchase some great certificates that will save you 50 percent on a lot of stuff.

Among the deals listed: A $60 round of golf at Runaway Bay for $30, a $1,095 yearlong family membership at the Arlington YMCA for $547, and a $50 gift card to WineStyles for $25. Restaurants participating include the Italian Inn in Ridglea, Hedary’s mediterranean restaurant, Byblos and Mercado Juarez. And that’s only a few.

But beware: A limited number of certificates will be sold for each offer. (For some offers, it’s just one certificate!) So bookmark this site and log on promptly at 9 a.m. June 1 to get your half off deals! If you have questions about the deals, read the fine print on each deal or visit the FAQ page.

UPDATE: I found another site by the same company, but these deals seem to be mostly in Dallas: http://dfwhalfoff.mediawebconnect.com

Free Burts Bees Lip Balm – If You’re Lucky

Category : free

burtbeelipIf you’re going to be online any day this week from about 8 to 10 a.m. central, and you have some time to kill, you might want to try and claim your FREE Burts Bees Lip Balm. In celebration of the company’s 25th birthday (or Burt Day, as they call it) they will be giving away 1,000 coupons each day for 25 days, good for a free lip balm.

How to get one, though, is a little tricky. First of all, today the website said that it would start giving them away around 10 a.m. our time, but it didn’t start until well after 10:30. The site also billed it as a sweepstakes, meaning that people would be chosen randomly to receive the coupon. However, judging from how the giveaway seemed to be running today, it appears that they’re giving the coupons out to the first 1,000, rather than picking and choosing the winners.

So now that you’ve been forewarned, go to http://www.burtsbees.com/burtday tomorrow morning and see if you can get in on this freebie. If it’s after 10 our time and you get the message that they’re “still gearing up,” keep refreshing the page every few minutes. Good luck! It’s limited to one per household, so if you manage to get one this week, you can’t get another.

Free Appetizer at Buttons Restaurant

Category : dining, food, free

If you like to listen to music while you eat, then you’ll love Buttons Restaurant, at the corner of I-30 and Hulen. They’ve got a band playing there just about every night of the week. And now, if you become one of their followers on Twitter, you can get a FREE appetizer during happy hour (anytime from 4 to 7 p.m.). Just watch their Twitter feed to see what the “secret phrase” of the day is, and just like that, you get free food! Can’t think of a sweeter deal than that.

To follow Buttons on Twitter, just visit their Twitter page at http://twitter.com/buttonsrestaurant. To see their menu, the music schedule, and learn more about the restaurant in general, visit http://www.buttonsrestaurant.com.

Cheap This Weekend: May 23-25

Category : Uncategorized

FWotC’s “Free This Weekend” post has always been a big hit, but due to popular demand, I’m starting a NEW feature: A “Cheap This Weekend” post. I’ll list weekend entertainment options that cost less than $20 per person (this is for admission only, not including gas and other optional purchases at the event). Have some fun, without digging too far into your wallet, with these events:

Head up to Ennis on Friday, Saturday or Sunday for the National Polka Festival. (Admit it, you’re a fan.) There will be a parade Saturday morning to kick off the festivities, plus Czech food for purchase, and – of course – polka music! Visit http://www.nationalpolkafestival.com for info. Adult tickets are $7 on Friday, $11 on Saturday and $10 on Sunday. Kids 12 and under are free.

Go on an educational nature hike Saturday, May 23, at the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, from 10 to 12 p.m. Admission is $5, and free if you’re a member visit http://www.fwnaturecenter.org for details. The Nature Center will also have a canoe tour of the West Fork of the Trinity on that day, from 8:30 a.m. to noon – cost for that is $20.

The Van Cliburn piano competition kicks off May 22, and guess what? Tickets are cheap! Well, they can be cheap. They start at just $15. They’re selling out quick, so visit http://www.centralticketoffice.com to reserve your seats (the “gallery” section seats are cheapest). Note that they don’t allow kids under 12 years old.

Ongoing: The National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame currently has a “Sound Around” hands-on exhibition devoted to the topic of resonancy and vibration. Admission is $8 for adults and $7 for kids (under 2 is free). Visit http://www.fortworthmuseum.org.

If you feel like venturing eastward to Dallas, the best bargain this weekend is definitely ArtFest 2009 in Fair Park. It’s held from May 22-24. All kinds of art are included in this event, from performing art to paintings to jewelry. Get tickets for only $5 apiece by buying them in advance at any Tom Thumb. They’re $6 at the gate. Kids under 6 are free!  They’ll be having plenty of family-friendly stuff there, so don’t hesitate to bring the kiddos (and Fido – dogs are admitted for a buck).

If you believe in ghosts – or even if you don’t – check out the daily Ghost Tours of Fort Worth, starting at the Stockyards Hotel. Call 817-625-6427 to make your reservation. Tickets are $15 each.

Make it an all-American Memorial Day with a baseball game. The Fort Worth Cats aren’t playing this weekend, but the Texas Rangers will play the Yankees on Monday. Grandstand seats start at just $11. There will also be a pre-game concert that day. Click this link to buy.

I think sparkly stuff is fun to look at. If you agree, come to the Will Rogers Memorial Center on Saturday or Sunday and see their “Jumpin’ for Geodes” show, featuring fossils, beads, jewelry, minerals and gems. It’s $4-5 per person. See this link for directions. Event starts at 9 a.m.

Here’s my personal weekend pick: The “Studs & Suds” Micro-Brew Festival at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. You can sample a variety of microbrews, and admission is only $5! Visit http://www.lonestarpark.com for directions to the park. It’s from noon to 4 p.m.

Texas de Brazil Meal Specials

Category : dining

texasdebrazillogoMore dining goodies: Texas de Brazil has a new coupon for a 3-course meal for $32.99 per person. This includes access to their “gourmet salad area” and, of course, lots of meat, including beef, lamb, pork, chicken and sausage – plus dessert. Bring the special carnivore in your life in to enjoy this offer! It’s valid from May 25 to June 30, on Mondays-Thursdays only. While not exactly a “cheap” meal, it is $20 off the normal price, so if you’re a regular or you’ve been wanting to try Texas de Brazil, now is the time.

If you prefer to go to Texas de Brazil for lunch, you can also use the coupon for $5 off the regular lunch price Monday-Friday.

Only caveat: You need the coupon, and it’s not available on the Web. However, I can forward it to you. Email me at fw [at] fortworthonthecheap.com and I will send it.

You can pick from chicken fried chicken, roasted turkey breast, a vegetable plate, slow-cooked pot roast, and more. Just click here to get your coupon. It’s valid on the weekends, but not on holidays (so don’t try to use it on Memorial Day).
