OfficeMax Special on Backpacks

Category : shopping

This week only, through July 30, OfficeMax is offering 100 percent back in MaxPerks Rewards when you buy backpacks, messenger bags and select totes. MaxPerks rewards are credits that are sent to you quarterly and can be used on just about anything in the store. So if you bought a backpack that was $30, you’d get $30 to spend at OfficeMax later. This offer is available both in store and online; see their online selection here. My kids are too small for the full sized backpacks, but I really like the laptop messenger bags for me!

This week, OfficeMax also has a deal on copy paper: pay $6.99 for a 500-sheet pack and get $6.98 back in MaxPerks Rewards. If you buy several of these MaxPerks deals together and spend at least $50, you’ll qualify for free shipping, too, making this deal especially convenient! (I have an OfficeMax about 5 minutes from me but I still ordered online.)

To take advantage of these deals, you must be a MaxPerks Rewards member. If you’re not, you can sign up here. Membership is free and they’ll give you a keytag you can scan every time you shop at OfficeMax. I get quite a few MaxPerks dollars each year from their ink cartridge recycling program, which gives you $3 for each cartridge you bring in. (I use a lot of ink!)

Deals on Eco-Conscious Finds From Milkshake

Category : entertainment, family, gifts, shopping

www.getmilkshake.comSometimes, when I’m shopping online for makeup, clothes, or toys for my kids, I pause and wonder if there are smaller, mom-and-pop alternatives to the big stores I’m so used to patronizing. That’s why I like Milkshake, a little-known site that sends out a daily e-mail about some of the best, “undiscovered” online stores out there. All of the companies they feature in their emails employ socially-conscious practices, too, whether it’s creating chemical-free products, repurposing throwaway items, or paying workers a living wage. It’s free – and painless – to sign up for Milkshake.

For example, one of their recent emails higlighted First World Trash, a company that makes totes, messenger bags and wallets from old billboard vinyl and seatbelt.

Best of all, many of the emails also contain discount codes so you can try some of these innovative products on the cheap! (Example: Use the code MILKSHAKE11 to save 10 percent at Ethical Ocean, a really neat store with some unique items.
