Kimbell Kids Drop-In Studio This Weekend

Each session features a brief gallery activity and a related studio-art project. The workshop happens from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Space is limited to 20 students. To sign up, come to the entrance to the education studios in the Renzo Piano Pavilion beginning one hour before the program.

Walk of Gratitude in Downtown FW

 photo walkofgratitude_zpsf55321a1.pngThis Saturday, Dec. 13, military charity Snowball Express will hold a Walk of Gratitude in downtown Fort Worth around 9:30 a.m. This event is a way for local residents to show their appreciation for the families of military personnel who have died during their service. Feel free to bring flags, patriotic signs and any other items you feel might help create a festive atmosphere! The parade will run down Main St. between 9th and 4th streets. See a map here. Organizers are asking attendees to arrive around 9 a.m.

Snowball Express flies in children of fallen soldiers (and their surviving caretakers) to Dallas every year for a fun weekend. Airfare is paid for. If you are a surviving spouse with surviving children, you can apply to attend around September. See an FAQ here.

Birds’ Christmas Tree at Botanic Garden

 photo botanicgardenbirdstree.jpgCome to the Fort Worth Botanic Garden this Saturday, Dec. 6 from 11 a.m. to noon for Birds’ Christmas Tree, an annual holiday tradition. Guests are invited to make biodegradable bird “tweets” ahead of time and bring them to hang on a Christmas tree for the garden’s birds. You can find a list of treat recipes here. The event will take place in the Grove area. Park in the area behind the Montgomery Street Antique Mall along the I-30 access road, which is close to the Grove.

Christmas Tree Lighting at Sundance Square

The festivities begin at 4 p.m. with strolling entertainment and live music in the square, followed by the lighting at 6 p.m. Santa will be on hand for photos from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Get more info on Santa photos here.

Artisan First Saturday at BRIT

 photo britartisanmarket_zps08a1a942.pngOn Saturday, Nov. 1, the Botanical Research Institute of Texas will host its monthly First Saturday program from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The theme for this month’s event is “Festive by Nature.” BRIT will host a number of talented local and international artisans selling a variety of hand-crafted items including jewelry, wood housewares, hand embroidered textiles from Honduras and Mexico, photographic art, ceramics, hand dyed accessories, all natural bath products and lovely hand-made children’s items.  In addition, they will have a number of local, artisanal food producers with festive, gift-worthy food items on hand. This is a great opportunity to start your holiday shopping! See a full list of vendors here.

There will also be plenty of other family-friendly activities at First Saturday, including Bella’s Story Time for preschoolers, plant preservation experts on hand to answer questions, and “Plant Walks and Talks” staffed by BRIT botanical experts. Visitors may also explore BRIT’s pocket prairie, geology wall, braided gardens, and wetland area.

First Saturday Events at BRIT

Come to BRIT from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for their free First Saturday family events. The theme for this month is Fall Harvest. Activities include public tours of the BRIT grounds, exhibits and more. Visitors can also explore BRIT’s pocket prairie, geology wall, braided gardens, and wetland area.

In addition, there will be a farmer’s market at BRIT from 8 a.m. to noon., and food truck vendors – this month features the very trendy Steel City Pops.

Fall Harvest Family Day at Calloway’s

There will be plenty of FREE activities for kids and families from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., including pie pumpkin decorating, story time, planting pansies in cute ice cream cones, drawings for great prizes, and Mad Science performances.

Mad Science performance times vary by store. Check the website for details. Bring your camera – there will be lots of fall decorations on display!

Preschool Event at Botanic Garden

Fun Family Events at the Kimbell

Kimbell Kids Drop-in Studio - Saturday, Sept. 20, 1 to 1:45 p.m. This free program introduces children (ages 12 and younger) and their adult companions to fun and inspiring ways to enjoy art together. Each session features a brief gallery activity and a related studio art project. Theme for this weekend is “Bumpy, Squishy, Gritty Landscapes.” Free; advance registration is not required. Space is limited to 20 children, plus adults. Sign up at the entrance to the education studios in the Renzo Piano Pavilion, beginning one hour before the program.

Hispanic Heritage Family Tour in Spanish - Sunday, Sept. 21, 1 p.m. Interactive docent-guided tours in Spanish will explore Spanish and Mesoamerican masterpieces in the Kimbell’s permanent collection. Talks are approximately 45 minutes in length. Free. No reservations required.
