Tree Lighting in Sundance Square

Come see the square’s 59-foot live tree, decked out in lights and decorations. Participants can also participate in a holiday sing-a-long and enjoy hot chocolate before seeing the arrival of Santa Claus.

Kimball Kids Drop-In Studio This Saturday

This Saturday, Nov. 21, will be another session of Kimbell Kids Drop-In Studio, a fun, free activity for kids 12 and under, at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth. The program introduces kids and their adult companions to various works of art. Each session features a brief gallery activity and a related studio art project. The event starts at 1 p.m.; however, space is limited to 20 kids and their adult companions. Sign up at the entrance to the Renzo Piano Pavilion 1 hour before the program starts.

The theme for this week is “Salty Seascapes.”

Free Fall Fun: Calloway’s Family Day

Kids’ Event at Kimbell Art Museum This Weekend

This Saturday, Sept. 5, the Kimbell Art Museum will once again host Kimbell Kids Drop-In Studio from 1 to 1:45 p.m. This free program introduces children (ages 12 and under) and their adult companions to fun and inspiring ways to enjoy art together.  Each session features a brief gallery activity and a related studio-art project. This week’s theme is “Ancient Animal Mosaics.”

While the event is free, space is limited. You may sign up for the event in the museum’s Renzo Piano Pavilion one hour before it begins.

Free Kids’ Movies at the Modern

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, Wednesday, Aug. 12, and Thursday, Aug. 13, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth will present Best of the Fest: Kid Flix Mix, a showing of selected films from the New York International Children’s Film Festival. This is your chance to see some limited-release films that you may never otherwise get the chance to watch! This is a FREE event, but seating is limited to the first 250 guests.

The schedule of events is as follows:

August 11:
10:30 a.m. – Kid Flix Mix, 30 minutes long, for ages 3-7
1 p.m. – Best of the Fest: Party Mix, 70 minutes long, for ages 8-12

August 12:
10:30 a.m. – Kid Flix Mix Part 2, 30 minutes long,  for ages 3-7
1 p.m. – ¡VIVA NYICFF! – 72 minutes long, for ages 8-12. Chosen from over five years of New York International Children’s Film Festival short film programs, ¡VIVA NYICFF! presents a diverse selection of award winners and audience favorites. All films in this program are from or feature stories about Spain and Latin America.

August 13:
1 p.m. – A Cat in Paris (Une Vie de Chat) – 70 minutes long, rated PG. The Academy Award-nominated A Cat in Paris from directors Jean-Loup Felicioli and Alain Gagnol is a beautifully hand-drawn caper set in the shadow-drenched alleyways of Paris. Rife with film references (from Reservoir Dogs to Goodfellas to The Night of the Hunter), A Cat in Paris is a warm and richly humorous love letter to classic noir and American gangster films, with a jazz soundtrack featuring Billie Holiday.

When you’re done watching the films, you can tour the Modern’s galleries for free.

Free Movie in Sundance Square

This Wednesday, Aug. 5, Sundance Square will host a free movie in the plaza at dusk. The featured movie for this week is Tangled. Please bring chairs or blankets to sit on. No outside food or drink will be allowed at the movie, since the event is designed to encourage support of local merchants. You can find a list of Sundance Square food vendors here.

The movie begins around 8:45 to 9 p.m., while games and other entertainment will begin at 7:30.

Mommy & Me Playtime at West 7th

Come to the West 7th shopping district on Tuesday, Aug. 4 for their weekly free Mommy & Me Playtime session. The hourlong playdates for parents and younger kids start at 10 a.m. During August, the playtime activities will focus on items from the kitchen. Here’s what the website says:

Come learn how to take creative play and turn it into a community wide movement of items found in your kitchen! What can we do with stale bread, pretzels, seeds, nut and seed spreads like sunflower butter (help mom & dad clean out the pantry and reclaim your old food)? What role do birds play in germinating our project into new growth? Come see how creative play can make learning fun for all ages!

The activities take place at the large space at 820 Currie St., across from Sweet Sammies. Bring a pillow or blanket to sit on.

FWISD’s Back to School Night at the Museum

On Saturday, Aug. 8, Fort Worth ISD will host Back to School Night at the Museum. This free event takes place at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History from 5-8 p.m.The first 500 guests in the door will receive a snack pack– sandwich, fruit, and water. Tickets to the Omni screening of “Dolphins” will be on a first come, first served basis after check-in at the event. All museum exhibits will be open to Fort Worth ISD families, and concessions will be available for purchase.

Families who attend will also receive packets with important information about the upcoming 2015-16 school year, which begins Monday, August 24. Many District departments, programs, and services will be represented to answer questions and share information.

Free Event: Research Day at BRIT

Come to the Botanical Research Institute of Texas on Saturday, Aug. 1 for their Research Day event. Activities will be going on from 8:30 a.m. until noon. During the event, you can learn more about BRIT’s valuable collections through an interactive exhibit. There will be several hands-on activities that will allow visitors to participate in the process of science, and you will have the opportunity to meet some of the BRIT scientists. This is a free event!
