Ice Cream Sunday at Kimbell Art Museum

 photo kimbellicecreamsunday_zps0e40ce9f.jpgThis Sunday, July 20, the Kimbell Art Museum will once again host its family-friendly Ice Cream Sunday event. From noon to 3 p.m., you can stop by the museum’s Renzo Piano Pavilion and get a free scoop of Blue Bell ice cream. The featured flavor is Magic Cookie Bar, a a sweet ice cream loaded with graham cracker crust pieces, chunks of dark chocolate, roasted pecan pieces and toasted coconut, all surrounded by a caramel sauce swirl.

There will also be plenty of other activities during Ice Cream Sunday, including an ice cream-inspired collage activity and a showcase of children’s films. Plus, you can visit their permanent art collection (admission to the collection is always free).

July Kids Club at Ridgmar Mall

Kimbell Kids Event This Saturday

Each session features a brief gallery activity and a related studio art project. The theme for this week’s session is “Art Fans.” This is a free event, but signups are limited to 20 kids and their accompanying adults. Sign up 1 hour before the event at the museum’s Renzo Piano Pavilion.

Free Samurai Celebration at the Kimbell

 photo kimbellartmatsuri_zpsb0501a5a.jpgOn Saturday, June 21, the Kimbell Art Museum will host Matsuri!: A Samurai Celebration from 1 to 10 p.m. This free family festival is inspired by the Museum’s current exhibition, Samurai: Armor from the Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Collection. Admission to the exhibition is free during the event.

The event will kick off with the traditional processional of the mikoshi shrine donated to Fort Worth by its sister city Nagaoka, Japan. Daytime activities include face painting, fan making, martial arts demonstrations, tai chi instruction, anime family films and a “selfie” photo booth. Evening activities include outdoor musical performances, provided in partnership with KXT 91.7 FM and taiko drummers. A variety of food trucks and beverage options will be on the grounds providing food for purchase. No outside food or beverages will be allowed.

Father’s Day Story Times at Barnes and Noble

You can sign up at the entrance to the education studios in the Renzo Piano Pavilion, beginning one hour before the program.

Star Party at Science Museum

Come to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History on Saturday, June 7 for their free monthly Star Party. The event starts around 8:30 p.m. and lasts until about 10:30. This is a great way to view the stars! You’ll find plenty of telescopes for viewing and even more astronomy buffs to help you navigate your way through the skies. It happens in the museum’s South Parking Lot. Parking is available in the lot south of Harley Street.

First Saturday at BRIT + Farmers Market

A variety of free, family-oriented activities will be available, including crafts for the kids, a scavenger hunt, tours of the facility, and more. While you’re there, you can also shop at BRIT’s monthly farmers market, which will be open from 8 a.m. to noon. Stop by the welcome tent and get a free reusable bag to carry your market goodies in (while supplies last).
