Free Movie in Sundance Square

This Wednesday, Aug. 5, Sundance Square will host a free movie in the plaza at dusk. The featured movie for this week is Tangled. Please bring chairs or blankets to sit on. No outside food or drink will be allowed at the movie, since the event is designed to encourage support of local merchants. You can find a list of Sundance Square food vendors here.

The movie begins around 8:45 to 9 p.m., while games and other entertainment will begin at 7:30.

Free Movie Screening at TCU

Tomorrow, March 3, is the last day of the Tournees French Film Festival at Texas Christian University. Come to the Moudy Building from 7-9 p.m. for a free showing of Poulet aux prunes (Chicken with Plums), starring Mathieu Amalric. The movie will be shown in French with English subtitles. You do not need to be a TCU student to attend.

The Moudy Building is at 2805 S. University Dr on the TCU campus. Parking will be available immediately behind the building at the corner of Greene Ave. and Princeton St.

Free Kids’ Movies at The Modern

The movies begin on Tuesday, Aug. 12 and run through Aug. 14 and are held in conjunction with the Lone Star Film Society. You and your young ones will enjoy these unique films! Plus, before or after the showing, you can visit the museum’s galleries and have a look at their collection. Seating for each show is limited to the first 250 people. On each day, a showing for kids ages 3-7 will begin at 10:30 a.m., and a showing for kids 8-12 will start at 1 p.m. For a look at the films that will be shown on each day, visit the Modern’s website.

Free Western Movie at Richardson Museum

This is the second-to-last installment of the series, which features movies about the American West. The movie begins at 6:30 p.m. The featured film will be Red River, starring John Wayne and Montgomery Clift. This is a free event, and refreshments are provided. Free Movie at The Modern

Free Outdoor Movie at Carter Museum

Bring the family to the Amon Carter Museum of American Art this Thursday, May 29 for a free showing of Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo on the museum lawn, as part of their “Sunset Cinema” series. The lawn will open at 6 p.m. and there will be museum tours from 7 to 7:45 p.m. The movie will start at 8:30 p.m. Lawn chairs, blankets and coolers are welcome. No glass bottles, alcohol or pets will be allowed. Food trucks will be on site from 6-9 p.m., so come hungry!

The next Sunset Cinema after this one will be on June 26, with a showing of Toy Story.

Movie Nights in Sundance Square

You can see a complete list of upcoming showings here. Feel free to bring chairs and blankets, but attendees are asked not to bring outside food or drink – patronize a restaurant in the square instead. (Or, eat beforehand.) This event happens through July 30.

Free Movie Screening at Rave Motion Pictures

Tomorrow, June 27, Rave Motion Pictures in Ridgmar Mall will hold a free screening of the new movie People Like Us, starring Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks. The movie begins at 7 p.m. To attend the screening, simply bring a copy of this invitation with you. The pass is good for two people. Seating is first-come, first-served and a limited number of seats are available, so arrive promptly to make sure you get in.

Free Movie Screening at Prairie Fest

This Saturday (May 26) is the year’s last installment of Prairie Fest, a free event from 4-8 p.m. that includes plenty of fun, family-friendly activities. There will be live entertainment, discovery hikes for kids and adults, wildflower walking tours, and more. But there will also be a bonus event that evening: At 8:45 p.m., the Citizen Theater will hold a free screening of The General, a 1926 silent film starring Buster Keaton. The 78-minute silent film, with a musical soundtrack, will be presented on a 12′ x 9′ outdoor screen powered by the sun.

Seating for the movie will be on the grass, so bring a blanket. Food will be offered for sale by Chadra Mezza Grill, Good Karma Kitchen and The Wiener Man.

Cheap and Free Kids’ Movies This Summer

Summer is almost here – and local theater chains are getting into the spirit by re-launching their cheap or free summer kids’ movie series. You can take your bored-at-home kids to the theater, relax (in the air conditioning) and see a movie for a fraction of normal price. Here’s who’s participating this year -

Rave Motion Pictures – they have a Free Family Film Festival; all shows start at 10 a.m., admission is free! First show is June 4 at the Fort Worth and Hurst locations.

Cinemark – their Summer Movie Clubhouse program offers 10 shows for $5 (if purchased in advance) or $1 per show if purchased at the box office. Participating theaters in Mansfield, Frisco, Dallas, Plano and Allen; days and times vary, but they’re always on weekdays and usually in the morning. Mansfield’s movies start May 23!

RegalSummer Movie Express offers movie admission for just $1! The only theater participating in DFW is the Fossil Creek 11 in Fort Worth. Movies start on June 5.

Studio Movie Grill – their Children’s Summer Series gets your kids admission for just $1; adults are $2. Starts June 5.

Harkins TheatresSummer Movie Fun begins on June 4; individual tickets per show are $2, or buy a 10-movie pass for $6. The Southlake 14 is the only Harkins location in DFW.

Premiere Cinemas – On Wacky Wednesdays, movies are just $1! Shows start at 10 a.m. First show is June 13. Location in Burleson.
