Fit15 Street Walk with Mayor Price

 photo fitworth_zpsaed13260.pngStep away from your desk at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 17 and come down to Trinity Park for a 15-minute walk with Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price. This initiative is part of FitWorth, a healthy-city initiative that encourages exercise and healthy habits for local residents. One of  FitWorth’s programs is Fit15, which urges local employers to give employees 15 minutes per day for physical activity.

In addition to the walk with Mayor Price, participants can learn more about Fit15, get some free giveaways, and enter for a chance to win gift cards from West 7th merchants.

The walk will kick off on the side of Trinity Park close to West 7th St.

Fort Worth Music Festival This Weekend

 photo fwmusicfest2_zpsf3a7d4ac.pngOn Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18, Panther Island Pavilion will host the Fort Worth Music Festival, a multi-stage entertainment event celebrating Fort Worth’s deep musical roots. Over the 2 days of the festival, you can enjoy music from 24 bands. Styles of music include pop, indie rock, blues, jazz, gospel and more. Plus, attendees can view artwork exhibits, taste culinary offerings presented by area chefs, and shop unique local vendors.

You can see the entertainment schedule here. Find info on visual artists at the festival here. There will also be lots of food trucks on hand. If you can’t get enough music, you can also head to one of the festival’s afterparties when things shut down for the day.

Single-day tickets to the Fort Worth Music Festival are $20, or $35 for a two-day pass. You can buy tickets here. VIP tickets are also available.

National Train Day in Fort Worth

You can celebrate in Fort Worth with a variety of activities at the Fort Worth Intermodal Transportation Center. The free events take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Highlights for 2013 include:

  • Guided tours of the 100-year-old InterUrban Trolley
  • The unveiling of the brand-new BNSF Railway locomotive that is fresh off the assembly line at General Electric (GE) Transportation’s new Fort Worth Locomotive Plant

  • Prize drawings for free Amtrak train travel

Texas Scottish Festival in Arlington

This weekend, May 3-5, Maverick Stadium in Arlington will host the Texas Scottish Festival, a family-friendly festival celebrating all things Scottish. Activities include live entertainment, children’s activities, and workshops. They’ll also host a full range of Scottish athletic activities and Scottish dance competitions. There will also be plenty of vendors selling Scottish food, kilts, Celtic crafts and more.

Single-day admissions are $12 on Friday and Sunday, and $18 on Saturday. Teens are $8 on any day and kids are $5. Weekend passes are $30 for adults, $15 for teens and $9 for kids; this ticket is good for all three days. See the full range of ticket options here.

If you have kids, you may want to stop by the Rugby Expo within the festival; kids ages 2 and up can try their hand at the sport with clinics.
