This week, Fort Worth residents are celebrating Juneteenth, the annual celebration of the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas. (You can read more about it here.) In commemoration, the Juneteenth Freedom Fest is having events through June 21. Many of these events are free. Here’s a sampling of what’s going on over the next few days:
June 19 - Juneteenth Community Health Fair – at Community Christian Church, 1800 E. Vickery, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Health screenings, community services, job fair, vendors, food, activities for kids, and more. Free.
June 20 – Historic Fort Worth Tour – boards at Ella Mae Shamblee Library, 1062 Evans Plaza, at 10 a.m., noon and 5:30 p.m. Molly the Trolley takes you on a narrated tour through Fort Worth’s most historic scenic areas and neighborhoods. Free.
June 21 – Juneteenth Dinner with the Stars Benefit Banquet – at Glen Garden Country Club, 2916 Glen Garden Dr. S., 7 p.m. A benefit banquet to raise money for The Fort Worth African American Museum, to raise awareness for Sickle Cell Disease and to honor a Community Icon. Tickets $40.
