Free Event: Springtown Wild West Festival

Head west to Parker County this Saturday, Sept. 17 for the Springtown Wild West Festival. This fun,  family-oriented event celebrates the Old West days with gunfight demonstrations, a mock “jail,” and plenty of kids’ activities, from inflatables to pony rides. You can also shop at the booths of local vendors and get information on various community groups. Concession booths will be on site, too. Admission to the Wild West Festival is free, but some activities may carry a cost – so bring cash!

At 10 a.m., a parade will start on Highway 199 and continue towards downtown Springtown, arriving on the square around 10:30 a.m. See the full parade route here.

Cheap Craft Workshop at Michael’s

Indulge your child’s creative urges and get them out this weekend for a fun, inexpensive craft event at Michael’s. Come out on Saturday, July 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a United Kingdom Crown and Shamrock event workshop. Kids can make a cute crown and shamrock! Purchase of the crown is required (I think it’s less than $2).

Looking ahead – on Tuesday, July 19, Michael’s will hold a Japanese-themed craft workshop, where kids will make a foam printing block and origami figure. This one is 100 percent free!

Free Craft Workshop at Michaels

Come by your local Michaels craft store from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, May 15 for a free Make-It Take-It crafting event. Kids 14 and up can make princess-themed paper tags. No purchase is necessary.

Dinosaur Event at Grapevine Mills Mall

Come to Grapevine Mills Mall on Saturday, May 14 from 1-3 p.m. for Dino Days, the latest installment of the mall’s Kidgits Club events. At this free event, kids can learn about dinosaurs and their history, enjoy dinosaur cookie “fossils,” make dino sand art and more. The fun takes place near the mall’s entry 3, close to Burlington Coat Factory.

Also, on May 21, the mall will host a Mini Chefs Event from 1-3 p.m. that combines food demonstrations with hands-on activities, encouraging kids to get creative and have fun with food. That event will take place near Entry 5.

Heritage Fun & Kite Flying at Nash Farm

Come to Nash Farm in Grapevine this Saturday, April 30 for their Heritage Fun & Kite Flying event. Families are encouraged to bring their homemade kites to the farm to enjoy a day of kite flying. Some kite kits will be available to purchase and assemble. Nash Farm visitors also get to have sack races, play with heritage toys, and enjoy the farm. This is a free event! Tractor rides are available for $1 and kites are $2.

Free Event: Prairie Fest

Come to Tandy Hills this Saturday, April 23 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the 6th annual Prairie Fest. This free event is a great time for the whole family. There will be live music, children’s activities, wildflower tours, and lots of other things to do. Don’t forget to do some shopping while you’re there – they’ll have plenty of artists on site painting en plein air (that’s French for outside), and you can take some of their work home. Food and drink from lots of local vendors will be available for purchase.

Come to Southlake this weekend (April 15-17) for Art in the Square, the city’s annual family-friendly celebration of fine art. You can inspect and purchase works from over 140 talented artists. However, if you’re not in the market for art, there’s still plenty to do, including:

  • Kids’ activities like bounce houses, face painting, bungee trampolines and rock climbing walls (there may be a charge for some activities)

Kids Fish For Free in Weatherford

Come to Holland Lake Park in Weatherford on Saturday, April 16 from 9 a.m. to noon for the Texas Junior Anglers fishing event, for kids 16 and under. Holland Lake Park will be stocked with over 700 pounds of channel catfish-yours for the taking.  Prizes will be given for longest fish caught in various age groups.  All registered participants will be eligible for door prizes.

Please bring your own fishing gear; TJA will have a limited supply of poles for use.  Get there early to register and claim your spot along the shore.

Holland Lake Park is at 1419 Holland Lake Road in Weatherford.
