On Thursday, Sept. 10, come to the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth at 7 p.m. to see Underwater Dreams, a documentary by Mary Mazzio. Admission to the screening is free! This is a part of Fort Worth’s quarterly Movies That Matter series, showcasing films about human rights issues. The film’s description is as follows:
Underwater Dreams is an epic story of how the sons of undocumented Mexican immigrants learned how to build an underwater robot from Home Depot parts and defeat engineering powerhouse MIT in the process. The documentary was the basis for the theatrical film Spare Parts, which was released in January 2015 and stars George Lopez, Marissa Tomei and Jamie Lee Curtis. The film runs 86 minutes.
A discussion will follow the film. No reservations are necessary – seating begins on a first-come, first-served basis 15 minutes before the film begins.

Great deal this week from AdPages – a buy-one-get-one deal on admissions to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. If you’ve never been, this is the perfect time to check it out. Fossil Rim is a 1,500-acre wildlife preserve in Glen Rose that’s home to many exotic species, including cheetahs, wolves, giraffes, rhinos and more. Admission is normally $25 per adult on the weekends, but you’ll save half with the AdPages deal if you bring two people.
If you pick up the deal, you will have until Dec. 31 to use it. It’s not valid on holidays, however.

This Friday, Sept. 4, Nash Farm in Grapevine will host its monthly First Fridays on the Farm series from 10 a.m. to noon. These events, designed for kids ages 3 and up, will introduce participants to what it was like to live on a farm many years ago. The theme for this month is “Craftsmanship.” Farmers relied on many craftspeople to keep their farms running, and this month’s workshop will focus on these crafts and trades.

This Saturday, Sept. 5, the Kimbell Art Museum will once again host Kimbell Kids Drop-In Studio from 1 to 1:45 p.m. This free program introduces children (ages 12 and under) and their adult companions to fun and inspiring ways to enjoy art together. Each session features a brief gallery activity and a related studio-art project. This week’s theme is “Ancient Animal Mosaics.”
