Taste of Keller This Weekend

 photo tasteofkeller_zps28c6d546.jpgThis weekend, you can try discounted cuisine from Keller’s best restaurants at Taste of Keller, a festival blending family, food and fun. The festival is on Friday, April 18 from 5-11 p.m. and on Saturday, April 19 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Keller Town Hall. More than 20 local restaurants will be at the event, including Buttercup’s Bake Shoppe, Devivo Bros. Eatery, and Elote Mexican Kitchen. Admission to the festival is free, but you must purchase tickets for 50 cents each to get food and drink. The average price is about 6 tickets per item.

Some notable events at Taste of Keller include:

Tasting Tent - on Friday from 6-8 p.m. Pay $10 and get 1-oz samples from 25 eateries. (Get tickets at Keller Business Connections, 131 Taylor St. during business hours)

Egg Drop – Saturday at 4 p.m. 10,000 plastic eggs will be dropped on the festival grounds from helicopters for kids to pick up!

Kids’ Activities – crafting corner, children’s play space and other activities

Other Fun Stuff – a poker run, 1k Fun Run (Saturday at 8 a.m.), a food-eating competition, live music and more

Cardboard Boat Regatta at Six Flags

On Saturday, April 26, River Legacy in Arlington will sponsor its annual Cardboard Boat Regatta at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Cardboard Boat Regatta challenges amateur boat builders to design, build and navigate boats made entirely of corrugated cardboard. You can build your boat beforehand, or participate in the Build-On-Site competition on the event day. See all the details here. Registration to participate in the Regatta ranges from $50 to $90, and there are discounts for schools and churches. For $5, kids can participate in the Mini-Boat Regatta.

If you’re not into building, you can still come and enjoy the fun. General admission to the Regatta is $8 per person, or $6 if you stop by River Legacy before April 25 and pick up your tickets. Kids will enjoy the children’s area, which includes Hook’s Lagoon, face painting, bubble play and a hula-hooping contest.

Six Flags will also open some of their water attractions at the Regatta. For $10, you can purchase a ride pass that includes admission to the Tornado ride, Tsunami Surge & Typhoon Twister (all subject to availability on event day). Sky Coaster Swing Rides cost $10 per person (2-person minimum ride).

Stop Six Wellness Expo

Easter Eggstravaganza at North East Mall

Free Family Festival at the Kimbell

 photo KimbellJapaneseFest2014_zpse7419447.jpgOn Saturday, April 12, the Kimbell Art Museum will host a free family festival, themed “Sights and Sounds of Japan.” The festival takes place from 1-4 p.m. A spectacular host of mighty samurai warriors will welcome families for a lively afternoon of creative art projects, artist demonstrations, family tours, children’s films made possible by the Lone Star Film Society, and interactive Kabuki theater workshops with Kent Williams.

No reservations are required to attend. Admission will also be free for the special exhibition Samurai: Armor from the Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Collection during this event.
