Fun This Weekend: Trinity River Paddlefest

On Monday, May 30, celebrate Memorial Day at Panther Island Pavilion with their Trinity River PaddlefestBackwoods Paddlesports at Panther Island Rentals is kicking off the summer paddling season with a paddling festival that includes free kayak and paddleboard demos. Enjoy half-price kayak, paddleboard, and canoe rentals; live music; food; beer; and a 9-hole disc golf course. The schedule is as follows:

9 to 9:30 a.m. – Open 5K SUP Race/Paddle registration
9:40 a.m. – Race/Paddle safety meeting
10 a.m. – Open 5K SUP Race/Paddle start
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Free kayak and SUP demos with Hobie, BOTE, and Jarvis
12 to 6 p.m. – Burgers and Beer from Flying Saucer and Martin House Brewery
1 to 5 p.m. – Live music from Blackland River Devils
6 p.m. – event ends

Rosie the Riveter Program at C.R. Smith Museum

Smith Museum will host a special event, “Women of the Greatest Generation,” beginning at 11:30 a.m. Rosie the Riveter will be on site for three presentations on women’s roles during World War II. Family-oriented programs will happen at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and a special children’s program will happen at 1 p.m. The event is free with admission to the C.R. Smith Museum, which is cheap – $7 for adults, $4 for seniors 65 and up, $4 for active duty military $4 for students with ID and $4 for children ages 2 to 17. Museum members and kids under 2 get in free.

Special Musical Event at Log Cabin Village

On Saturday, March 14, Log Cabin Village will host “Music in the Air,” a special family event focusing on homemade musical instruments. Come join their band of merrymakers as they create an orchestra from found materials, with instructions on how to make your own at home! They’ll also feature photos and recordings of historic instruments, as well as live music from Buttermilk Junction Old Time String Band.

Cost of the event is regular Village admission, which is $4.50 for kids 4-17 and seniors 60+; adults are $5 and kids 3 and under are free. There is an additional $3 fee if you want to make an instrument to take home.

Townes Van Zandt Celebration in Fort Worth

This weekend, March 7-8, Arts Fifth Avenue in Fort Worth will celebrate the life of legendary blues guitarist – and Fort Worth native – Townes Van Zandt with two events. Here’s what’s going on:

Tribute Screening – On Saturday, March 7 at 8 p.m., there will be a showing of Townes Van Zandt and the Fort Worth Blues, a Multi-Media Live Performance exploring the life and death Van Zandt, written and compiled by Bruce Payne. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased in advance here.

HomeTOWNES Fest – On March 8, Arts Fifth Avenue will host a special event, billed as “Pay, Play or Feed a Stray,” beginning at 2 p.m. For admission, you can either buy a ticket for $10, bring your instrument and play some music, or bring pet food for donation to Don’t Forget to Feed Me, a pet food bank serving North Texas.
