Admission to the main garden is, of course, always free, but admission to the wonderful Japanese Garden always costs a little cash. But right now, Groupon has a great deal: $10 for 2 admissions to the Japanese Garden, or $19 for admission for four. Admission is normally $7 for adults and $4 for kids ages 4-12, so this deal saves you a bit. The Japanese Garden is truly magical – it features 7.5 acres filled with cherry trees, Japanese maples, magnolias, bamboo, bridges, and ponds which are home to over 1,200 Koi fish.

First Saturday Event at BRIT

Saturday, April 2 is the next First Saturday event at the Botanical Research Institute of Texas. Come to BRIT from 9 a.m. to noon exhibits, plant ID, Bella’s Story Time (10:30 a.m. & 11 a.m.), free public ambassador-led tours beginning at 10:30 a.m., and self-guided tours of BRIT’s LEED Platinum building. While you’re there, make time to explore the center’s pocket prairie, geology wall, braided gardens, and wetland area. This is a free event!

This is also the last weekend for Butterflies in the Garden at the nearby Fort Worth Botanic Garden. Butterflies in the Garden takes place inside a 70-degree Rainforest Conservatory filled with more than 700 species of plants and LOTS of butterflies! Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for kids 3-12 and $8 for seniors.

Birds’ Christmas Tree at Botanic Garden

Guests are invited to make biodegradable bird “tweets” ahead of time and bring them to hang on a Christmas tree for the garden’s birds. You can find a list of treat recipes here. The event will take place in the Grove area. Park in the area behind the Montgomery Street Antique Mall along the I-30 access road, which is close to the Grove.

“Little Sprouts” At the Botanic Garden

 photo strawberries_zpsf52b86cb.jpgOn Tuesday, July 22, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden will host a “Little Sprouts” event for toddlers from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., at the Backyard Vegetable Garden. The theme for this week is “Fruits.” Engage in a learning experience with your toddler while enjoying the summer weather! Kids must be between 18 months and 3 years. There must be at least one caregiver per child – so unfortunately, moms with multiple young kids won’t be able to attend.

Admission to the Botanic Garden is free. To go to the garden’s conservatory, it’s $2 for adults and $1 for kids. Kids under 4 are free.

Family Drop-In at Botanic Garden Tonight

At this monthly event, kids can enjoy a come-and-go craft activity, with all supplies furnished. Tours of the garden will also be given. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic and stay for a while to enjoy the garden.

The activity each month is different. Here’s the activity for May:

Meet at the South end of the Texas Native Forest Boardwalk. Have the coolest lilies in Cowtown…on your head! Create unique head art when you make your own head bopper, then travel the Boardwalk in style!

Regular Garden admission does apply. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for seniors and $1 for kids ages 4-12.

Butterflies in the Garden Kicks Off Saturday

Saturday, March 1 is the first day of the Fort Worth Botanic Garden’s Butterflies in the Garden, a monthlong celebration of butterflies! During the five-week exhibit, approximately 12,000, beautiful, exotic butterflies of every hue and size will be released in the conservatory. The theme for the 2014 exhibit is “Butterflies of Asia” and will feature butterflies such as the Archduke (Lexias pardalis), Paper Kite (Idea leoconoe), Great Mormon (Papilio memnon), and Striped Blue Crow (Euploea mulciber),all of which are from Malaysia.

Hours for the exhibit are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week. Admission is free for kids 2 and under; $6 for ages 3-12; $10 for ages 13-64; and $8 for seniors (65+).

Scarecrow-Making at Botanic Garden

This is a free event. Bring some old clothes to use for the scarecrow – the garden will provide everything else. The event takes place at the Greenhouse Classroom, along the southern edge of the garden.
