Frontier Forts Days in the Stockyards

Category : entertainment, family, Featured, free

The Stockyards already look pretty frontier-like – but it really kicks into overdrive during Frontier Forts Days, scheduled for Friday and Saturday (May 11-12). During this free, two-day heritage event, the Stockyards National Historic District is transformed into an authentic representation of Texas frontier life. Exchange Avenue in the Stockyards will be lined with encampments of historic fort sites from the Texas Forts Trail and elsewhere in Texas. Approximately 10 forts and related programs will participate in the event. Designed to highlight frontier-era life, Frontier Forts Days brings together authentic wagons, flags, music, colorful uniforms and military gear from Texas landmarks. Infantry, artillery and cavalry demonstrations and military parades will fill the event schedule on Friday and Saturday. Re-enactors will also be on hand to discuss frontier life.

Hours of the event are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Find directions to the Stockyards here.

Free Movie at Stockyards

Category : entertainment, family, Featured, free

The Alamo Drafthouse is holding a Rolling Roadshow this summer, touring around Texas and showing films that are reminiscent of the state. Tomorrow (June 17), they’ll be at the Fort Worth Stockyards, hosting a free showing of the movie Red River, with John Wayne and Montgomery Clift. The movie begins at 8 p.m., but get there early – seats are first-come, first-served. Plus, there will be entertainment from Legends of Texas, Ft. Worth’s award winning gunfighters and historical reinactors. Bring lawn chairs and blankets.

If you’d like, you can RSVP for the showing on Facebook, though doing so doesn’t guarantee you a seat.
