Free Weekend Workout at The Trailhead

Free Concerts at Rockin’ the River

Next week is the official kickoff of Rockin’ the River, a free series of concerts that take place this summer along the Trinity at Panther Island Pavilion. You can listen to live music, tube in the river and enjoy a fireworks show after the music is over. The schedule of concerts is as follows:

June 16 — The Damn Quails, Joey Green Band.

June 23 — Prophets and Outlaws, Erick Willis.

June 30 — Eleven Hundred Springs, Larry Hooper.

July 7 — Dalton Domino, Austin Meade.

July 14 — Dolly Shine, Grady Spencer.

July 21 — Parker McCollum, Chance Anderson.

July 28 —Zane Williams, Ray Johnston Band.

Aug. 4 — Midnight River Choir, Troy Cartwright.

Aug. 11 — Dirty River Boys, Cody Bryan Band.

Aug. 13 — This Saturday event will serve as the series finale and will feature Cooder Graw, Statesboro Revue, Aaron Einhouse, Red Shahan and Austin Allsup.

Gates open at 4:30 p.m. each Thursday. At 6:45 p.m., the headliner takes the Coors Waterfront Stage. At 8:30 p.m. the after-party band plays on the South Shore Stage, and the festivities end at dark with a fireworks show. Guests can bring a blanket and chairs or enjoy front-row seats from the comfort of a tube. (Bring your own tube or rent one from the Pavilion for $6 with a $2 refundable deposit.)

On Monday, May 30, celebrate Memorial Day at Panther Island Pavilion with their Trinity River PaddlefestBackwoods Paddlesports at Panther Island Rentals is kicking off the summer paddling season with a paddling festival that includes free kayak and paddleboard demos. Enjoy half-price kayak, paddleboard, and canoe rentals; live music; food; beer; and a 9-hole disc golf course. The schedule is as follows:

9 to 9:30 a.m. – Open 5K SUP Race/Paddle registration
9:40 a.m. – Race/Paddle safety meeting
10 a.m. – Open 5K SUP Race/Paddle start
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Free kayak and SUP demos with Hobie, BOTE, and Jarvis
12 to 6 p.m. – Burgers and Beer from Flying Saucer and Martin House Brewery
1 to 5 p.m. – Live music from Blackland River Devils
6 p.m. – event ends

Bands on the Bricks in Sundance Square

This Wednesday, May 25 is the last installment of Bands on the Bricks, a weekly live concert series that happens every Wednesday in May in Sundance Square. From 6-8 p.m., bring a comfortable lawn chair or blanket to the Plaza and enjoy a free concert by Uncle Lucius. Admission is free, but guests are asked to not bring coolers or outside food. Instead, buy some refreshments from the restaurants and vendors around the Square.

Frontier Forts Days at the Stockyards

This Friday and Saturday (May 13-14) is the annual Frontier Forts Days celebration at the Fort Worth Stockyards. Come out to the Stockyards each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and participate in a variety of fun activities. This is a free event!

During this two-day heritage event, the Stockyards National Historic District is transformed into an authentic representation of Texas frontier life. Exchange Avenue in the Stockyards will be lined with encampments of historic fort sites from the Texas Forts Trail and elsewhere in Texas. Approximately 10 forts and related programs will participate in the event. Designed to highlight frontier-era life, Frontier Forts Days brings together authentic wagons, flags, music, colorful uniforms and military gear from Texas landmarks.

Planned events include military parades, artillery and cavalry demonstrations, music, chuckwagon demonstrations and more. See the schedule of events here.

First Saturday Event at BRIT

Saturday, April 2 is the next First Saturday event at the Botanical Research Institute of Texas. Come to BRIT from 9 a.m. to noon exhibits, plant ID, Bella’s Story Time (10:30 a.m. & 11 a.m.), free public ambassador-led tours beginning at 10:30 a.m., and self-guided tours of BRIT’s LEED Platinum building. While you’re there, make time to explore the center’s pocket prairie, geology wall, braided gardens, and wetland area. This is a free event!

This is also the last weekend for Butterflies in the Garden at the nearby Fort Worth Botanic Garden. Butterflies in the Garden takes place inside a 70-degree Rainforest Conservatory filled with more than 700 species of plants and LOTS of butterflies! Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for kids 3-12 and $8 for seniors.

Open Streets + Earth Party on FW’s Southside

On Sunday, April 3, come to Fort Worth’s Southside for Open Streets, a car-free street fair filled with activities for everyone. The fair will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Magnolia Avenue between Eighth Avenue and Hemphill Street. Some parts of the route will be full of activities and vendors, while some will be more relaxed, allowing the gentle enjoyment of a neighborhood not dominated by cars. There is no charge to attend!

Enjoy food vendors, live music, water stations, a children’s area, fitness classes and more. Dogs are welcome. Choose to spend your time in the Roll Zone — an entire lane dedicated to rolling fun on bikes, boards, skates and scooters — or the Stroll Zone — more than 100 community partners providing free, family-friendly activities. Parking is available at 1201 Alston Ave.

While you’re enjoying Open Streets, make sure to head over to Magnolia Green Park for the Fort Worth Earth Party, a family event that celebrates everything green and sustainable in Fort Worth. Hours are noon to 4 p.m. The Earth Party includes educational booths, children’s activities, a tree giveaway and prizes, including four Fort Worth staycation packages. This is also a free event.

Free Event: Funky Finds Spring Fling

On Saturday, March 12 and Sunday, March 13, it’s time once again for the Funky Finds Spring Fling sale, an annual event at the Will Rogers Center that showcases handmade goods from local vendors. This year’s spring show will take on a decidedly nautical theme, and the organizers have “cast a wide net to make sure we’ve caught only the freshest and funkiest handmade products in the retail sea.” Come to the sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday – over 100 makers will be on hand selling unique items, including candles, knitted goods, art prints and more. Admission is free! Leashed pets and kids are welcome.

It’s worth it to arrive early – the first 75 people to arrive each day and purchase at least 10 raffle tickets ($1 each) will receive a free swag bag full of items from vendors. Raffle proceeds will benefit CASA of Tarrant County and the Humane Society of North Texas.
