Giveaway: Camp Bowie District Pub Crawl

Category : dining, drinks, entertainment, Featured, food, free

Like beer? Like food? Then you’ll want to be in Fort Worth on Thursday, July 14, for the Camp Bowie District Pub Crawl. This unique event, sponsored by the Camp Bowie District and Rahr Brewing, allows you to stroll through “the bricks” of the district, sampling some of the best comfort food from its restaurants, expertly paired with a Rahr brew. Check out the featured restaurants and beer pairings:

Winslow’s Wine Cafe
The Beer
Rahr Bucking Bock (A traditional German Bock Beer that is golden in color and mildly hopped with a smooth malty character.)
The Food
Wood-fired Margherita Pizza with Italian tomatoes, fresh basil and Buffalo mozzarella, carefully drizzled with olive oil.
Hand-made Pepperoni Pizza with an artisan tomato sauce and a melted blend of mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.

Lucile’s Stateside Bistro
The Beer
Rahr Buffalo Butt (A rich, amber lager that doesn’t require months on a dusty trail gazing at a buffalo’s posterior to enjoy. With notes of caramel and spicy hops, this beer goes great with American classics.)
The Food
Rich, creamy lobster bisque.
Wood-roasted salsa specially blended with chili peppers, onion and cilantro. Served with fresh-made corn tortilla chips.

Kincaid’s Hamburgers
The Beer
Rahr Ugly Pug (A black lager, but unlike most dark beers that are often described as “heavy” or “chewy”, this one has a surprisingly light body that’s easy to drink on even the hottest Texas summer days.)
The Food
Choice of an 8 oz. juicy, old-fashioned hamburger or cheeseburger freshly cooked with hand-sliced vegetables. Go for the 4 oz. USDA Black Angus chuck patty and get crinkle-cut fries on the side.

Sounds good, right? You can enjoy the pub crawl for just $10 per location. That’s a lot of food and beer! The crawl runs from 5:30 to 9 p.m.; just come to the restaurant(s) of your choice and pay. But wait! One lucky Fort Worth on the Cheap reader will receive two free admissions to all 3 locations on the Pub Crawl, along with the featured food and beer. To enter, fill out the form below. You must be 21 years old to participate. I’ll draw for the winner at 5 p.m. July 12 and notify them shortly thereafter. You will receive a bonus entry if you “like” Fort Worth on the Cheap on Facebook, so if you’re not already a fan – become one today!

Good luck!

Giveaway: Natural Cosmetics from Smoky Mountain Minerals

Category : beauty, contest, free

I love makeup. But I don’t like wearing foundation. It never quite looks right with my skin tone and always ends up being too light or too dark. That’s why I’ve been using mineral makeup lately. Instead of smearing on a traditional product, you just brush the powder or light liquid makeup onto your face for a more natural look. There are a lot of mineral-makeup companies out there, but the online store Smoky Mountain Minerals may be one of the best.

Smoky Mountain Minerals says that their mission is “to make affordable healthy makeup and skin care available to everyone.” Their store has a wide variety of products, from thicker base-type makeup and concealers to blushes, bronzers and lip products. All of their products are free of dyes, talc, gluten, chemicals, fragrances and preservatives, so even people with sensitive skin can use them. I personally like their Flawless Face starter kit, which includes several different products and is only $19.95.

One lucky Fort Worth on the Cheap reader will receive a gift certificate for $32 worth of Smoky Mountain Minerals products. As a bonus, the winner also receives free shipping on their order. To enter, fill out the form below. Entries close at 9 p.m. central time on Wednesday, March 6. Must be a Texas resident and at least 18 years old to enter. The winner will be contacted via email. Good luck!

Disclosure: I did not receive any compensation, monetary or otherwise, in exchange for this giveaway. The gift certificate is sponsored by Fort Worth on the Cheap!

Giveaway: $15 to Juice in the City

Category : beauty, contest, entertainment, Featured, free, gifts

OMG, cupcakes!

If you’ve been reading my Daily Deal Roundup posts, you know that the DFW area has a ton of daily-deal sites. And many of them offer some really good deals. But one of my favorites is Juice in the City, a unique daily-deal site that offers bargains you won’t find anywhere else.

Juice in the City is special because its deals are sourced by Local Business Consultants – moms who actually live in the DFW area and know about the best places to eat, shop and have a good time. Take, for example, my recent redemption of a voucher for a dozen cupcakes from Bedford Bakery. I only paid $6 for the deal – which is awesome in itself – but I was amazed at what I found when I came to the bakery to pick up my cupcakes. Bedford Bakery is tiny, tucked away into a not-too-busy shopping center, but inside, they had the most delicious array of cakes, cupcakes, petit fours and more. I never would have known about this bakery were it not for Juice in the City. (The cupcakes were awesome, by the way.)

Some of the other deals on Juice in the City have included half off at restaurants, deals on massages, and my personal favorite, half off at Jamba Juice. They currently serve the north mid-cities area (Southlake, etc) as well as Collin County and Denton County, but they are considering expanding into the Fort Worth area, too. Like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter to get daily updates about their deals. And be sure to check out today’s deal, $15 for $30 at Garliq Italian Restaurant in Southlake.

And now for the good stuff: One lucky Fort Worth on the Cheap reader will receive a $15 Juice Bucks credit to spend on anything at Juice in the City (with a limited number of exceptions). Entering is easy. Simply sign up for a Juice in the City account if you don’t already have one (they have to have somewhere to credit your Juice Bucks to!), and then fill out the form below. If you follow JITC on Twitter and like them on Facebook, note that in the entry form; you’ll two extra entries if you do both.

Winner will be drawn on Friday, March 25, at noon central time. Texas residents only; must be 18+ years old. Good luck!

This $15 Juice Bucks credit was provided by Juice in the City. I was compensated by JITC for this post. All opinions are mine.

Giveaway: $25 in CityDeals

Category : contest, entertainment, family, free

CityDeals - Discounts Savings and Gift CardsIf you’re a close watcher of Fort Worth on the Cheap, you’ll notice a new banner somewhere in the middle of the homepage – the one with the smart-looking chick holding an envelope. That’s CityDeals, a new deal site that’s recently come to our attention.

Unlike the deal-a-day sites, CityDeals has lots of deals to pick from everyday. You can get significant savings on services, food and merchandise from both national and local retailers. Places like Cold Stone Creamery and Cinemark Theatres, as well as a plethora of local salons, spas and entertainment venues, have recently had deals posted on the site. Buying the deal is easy, too – just pick what you like, check out, and you’ll get your certificate in 2 to 3 weeks. You can even request a deal for a specific retailer if you want. There aren’t any local deals for DFW up yet, but they’ll be running soon. (See an example of a great local deal they’re running for another city. And here’s a national deal you can take advantage of now.)

In commemoration of its DFW launch, CityDeals is sponsoring a giveaway. Two lucky FWOtC readers will receive a $25 gift certificate, good for anything on the CityDeals site. To enter, do two things: Join both the CityDeals email list and the FWotC e-mail list. Then leave a comment on this post with your name and the email address that you used to sign up. (If you are already on the FWotC e-mail list, mention that in your comment. But both lists must be joined to enter.)

If you want bonus entries, do one (or both) of these things and leave a separate comment for each one:
1. “Like” FWotC on Facebook
2. Tweet this on Twitter: “Win $25 in bargains from @fwcheap! http://bit.ly/dm6vr7″

I’ll draw for the winner at 9 a.m. on Aug. 8 and notify the winner shortly after verifying their entry. This giveaway is for Texas residents only.

Thanks, and good luck!

Giveaway: $30 Kroger Gift Card

19

Category : contest, food, free

It’s especially appropriate that I launch this giveaway today, I think, because today is the first day of my newest diet. I do this every once in a while, just to shed some extra weight for summer. With that in mind, I’m definitely signing up for Kroger’s newest initiative: The Pound for Pound Challenge.

The Kroger family of stores is the official supplier of the ranch on the TV weight-loss show, The Biggest Loser. They’re encouraging all of their customers to take a cue from the show’s contestants and make a commitment to work towards better health. You can sign up for the Pound for Pound Challenge here. It’s free to join!

As an added initiative, Kroger will donate 14 cents to Feeding America for every pound that you pledge to lose (through June 30). That’s enough money to deliver 1 pound of groceries to a local food bank.

Kroger also has lots of great products from General Mills to help you achieve your weight-loss goals: Yoplait Greek yogurt, Total cereal, and multigrain Cheerios. (I love the Greek yogurt – in fact, I had it for breakfast this morning!)

Now, onto the good stuff: I’m giving away a $30 Kroger gift card to one of my lucky readers. As usual, you can get up to 3 entries in this giveaway. Read below to find out:

1. Leave a comment on this post letting me know how much you’ve pledged to lose with the Pound for Pound Challenge. (This is a mandatory entry; you will be unable to do the Facebook and Twitter entry methods if you didn’t leave a comment here.)

2. Become a fan or “like” Fort Worth on the Cheap on Facebook. If you are already a fan, leave a separate comment saying so.

3. Tweet this on Twitter: “Win a $30 Kroger gift card from @fwcheap! http://bit.ly/aJgpoM” Then leave a separate comment on this post with a link to the tweet.

Eligibility: You must be a Texas resident to enter this giveaway. Entries will be accepted through noon on Wednesday, June 23, at which time I’ll draw for the winner and contact them by e-mail.

Thanks, and good luck!

Disclosure: Kroger and General Mills, through MyBlogSpark, provided me with a $30 gift card and another one to give away to one of my readers. I have not received any other compensation from these companies for this post.

Giveaway: $25 Steak-Out Gift Certificate

17

Category : contest, food, free

Congratulations to Amber, who was the winner of our $20 gift card to H-E-B. If you didn’t win, don’t despair – I have another giveaway for you. As in, RIGHT NOW.

Many people may not know that we have a fairly new eatery in Fort Worth - Steak-Out. I loved eating at this place when I was in college (in another state), and I’m happy to see it here in Texas. In fact, it’s the only Steak-Out in Texas. For those of you not familiar with Steak-Out, here’s the scoop: They serve yummy grilled steaks, hamburgers, shrimp and chicken, along with all the requisite sides, like rolls, salads and baked potatoes. And they will deliver it straight to your door. That’s right – a full, real meal, just by making a phone call. Beats pizza anyday, in my opinion.

They’ve also got a new item on the menu – a Cobb Salad. This is a special dish available only through the summer. It has all the ingredients you love – an iceberg wedge, topped with ham, chicken, tomatoes, bacon bits, cheddar, olives, mushrooms and hardboiled egg wedges.

Steak-Out is located at 2209 W. Berry St. in Fort Worth. They’re open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., except on Fridays and Saturdays, when they’re open till 10.  See all the pertinent info here. To see their delivery area, go here.

Right now, they’re also offering a special to celebrate the launch of their online ordering system. If you’re a first-time online orderer, you can get $5 off your purchase of $20 or more.

Now for the giveaway: One of my lucky readers will win a $25 gift certificate to Steak-Out of Fort Worth. To enter, take a look at their menu and tell me what item you’d like to try if you’re the winner. This is the mandatory entry; in other words, you must use this method of entry to be eligible (can’t do just the Facebook and Twitter bonuses).

You can get up to 3 bonus entries by doing one or all of these things:
1. “Like” Fort Worth on the Cheap on Facebook. (Already a fan? Leave a separate comment saying so.)
2. Tweet this on Twitter: “Win a $25 Steak-Out gift certificate from @fwcheap! http://bit.ly/bG05UW” (leave a separate comment w/ a link to the tweet)
3. Join my e-mail list and leave a comment telling me which e-mail address you used.

I’ll draw for the winner next Wednesday, May 19, at 12 p.m. All entries must be received by 11:59 a.m. on May 19. Texas residents only, please. Please note that this gift certificate is only good for the Fort Worth location.

Good luck!

New Giveaway: $20 H-E-B Gift Card

15

Category : contest, family, gifts, shopping

Most major retailers have been chanting “Mother’s Day, Mother’s Day” for about three weeks now. I know, you get it, Mother’s Day is May 9. So with that in mind, why not break from the crowd and do your Mother’s Day shopping at …a grocery store?

Yep, you heard me right. Many grocery stores – and, specifically, H-E-B - have everything you need to make a great Mother’s Day. They have all the ingredients for a great meal, plus special treats like dipped strawberries, which are only available for a limited time.

H-E-B also has fresh, quality flowers; in fact, there’s an in-store coupon right now for $3 off a hand-tied bouquet or floral arrangement, plus a “Floral Combo Loco” – when you buy an “Always in My Heart” bouquet, you’ll get a free vase.

Does your special Mom like to shop? H-E-B has a wide selection of gift cards from major retailers. When you buy $50 in gift cards from H-E-B this week, you’ll get $5 off your next purchase. And if you’re looking to get creative with your celebration, H-E-B has a great list of ways to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Now, on to the giveaway. One of my lucky readers will receive a $20 gift card to H-E-B. (These gift cards also work at Central Market.) Here’s how to enter:

1. Leave a comment on this post telling me how you plan to celebrate Mother’s Day this year. This is a mandatory entry - in other words, using just the bonus methods won’t get you entered into the drawing at all.

2. (Bonus entry): Become a fan or “like” Fort Worth on the Cheap on Facebook. If you’re already a fan, leave a separate comment saying so.

3. (Bonus entry): Tweet this on Twitter: “Win a $20 H-E-B gift card from @fwcheap! http://bit.ly/aPxNGs” . Then leave a separate comment with a link to the Tweet.

I’ll take entries through 11:59 a.m. on Monday, May 10. At that time, I’ll use a random number generator to draw for the gift card. You must be a Texas resident to enter.

Good luck!

Disclosure: H-E-B provided the information about their store specials in the post, and provided the gift card to give away. I did not receive any other compensation from H-E-B for this post.

Earth Day Giveaway: Reusable Grocery Bags

2

Category : contest, grocery

Have you “been meaning” to incorporate some greener practices into your life lately, but just haven’t gotten around to it? Earth Day – scheduled for April 22 – is a perfect time to get started. I admit, I wasn’t always a “green” person. And I’m still not perfect. But here are some of the things that I do. They don’t take much time, and they help me feel a little better about the not-so-green things that I do (like using disposable diapers).

1. Recycling. I recycle paper and cardboard at my house, because that’s what generates the most waste. I have several cardboard and plastic boxes in my garage that I collect the recyclables in. It’s a great spot because I can drive into the garage and just chunk the junk mail into the boxes before it can make its way into the house. We don’t have curbside recycling where I live, so I have to take it to my county precinct once a month or so.

2. Buying organic. I don’t buy every food item organic by any means. But I do make an effort to get organic produce and milk whenever I can. Supporting organic farmers, who don’t use pesticides or other fake stuff to produce their wares, keeps harmful stuff off of the planet. And it’s better for you to boot.

3. Using CFLs. These compact fluorescent light bulbs use less energy, reducing my electric bill and reducing the load on the grid. See my post on Earth Day deals for info on how to get CFLs cheap this week.

4. Reusable grocery bags. It seems like every store sells them these days. I have quite a collection now. To make sure I always have some with me, I take them right back to my car immediately after unloading my groceries. I even bring them to department stores like Kohl’s.

5. Other tips. The H-E-B family of stores has a great list of other ways to go green for Earth Day. Check them out!

Now, on to the good stuff. H-E-B has generously offered to send three of my readers one reusable grocery bag each in honor of Earth Day. To enter, simply leave a comment on this post listing a green practice that you plan to put into effect in celebration of Earth Day. To get up to two bonus entries, do these things:
1. Tweet this on Twitter: “Go green with a giveaway from @fwcheap! http://bit.ly/btuZMb
2. Become a fan of Fort Worth on the Cheap on Facebook.

The first entry method is mandatory – i.e. you can’t use Twitter or Facebook to enter unless you’ve used the first entry method. If you decide to do the bonus entries, leave a separate comment on this post each time you do. Like you can say, “I Tweeted!” and include a link to the tweet. If you’re already a Facebook fan, then just leave a separate comment saying so.

I’ll draw for the reusable bags on April 25 at 11:59 a.m. so get your entries in before then. Winners will be contacted via e-mail. U.S. residents only, please.

Good luck!

Giveaway: Yoplait “Nourish Your Inner Goddess”

2

Category : contest, grocery

Have you tried Yoplait’s new Greek Yogurt yet? I got a cup from Albertson’s the other day, and I was quite impressed. The flavor is a little different than most yogurts – it’s not overly sweet – and best of all, it is thick and rich. Plus, I feel like I’m doing my body a favor because each cup has 12 grams of protein, which is twice that of many yogurts.

In celebration of Yoplait’s new Greek Yogurt, I’m giving away a “Nourish Your Inner Goddess” gift pack, which includes a thick, fluffy terrycloth bathrobe, slippers, a loofah and two coupons for a free cup of Yoplait Greek Yogurt.

Here’s the skinny: You can enter the contest by leaving a comment on this post telling me how you get in touch with your inner goddess. (For me, it’s a nice spa pedicure.) Guys, you can tell me how you help your significant other find her goddess.
You can get up to three additional entries by doing these things:
1. Become a Facebook fan of Fort Worth on the Cheap
2. Join FWotC’s mailing list
3. Tweet this on Twitter: “Win a Goddess Gift Pack from @fwcheap! http://bit.ly/9b8ozs” (no quotes)

Limit of 4 entries total per person. You must enter by commenting on this post before you can use the “bonus” methods of entry (Twitter, etc). Each time you use an additional method of entry, leave a separate comment stating so. You must be a Texas resident to enter this giveaway. I’ll draw for the prize pack on Tuesday, April 13, and notify the winner by e-mail.

If you’re interested in trying Yoplait Greek Yogurt right now, you can get a coupon for 30 cents off a cup. (Take it to Albertson’s, Kroger or another triple-coupon store for a great deal!)

Disclosure: The information in this post was provided to me by Yoplait, in conjunction with MyBlogSpark. They also provided me with an Inner Goddess Gift Pack and another to give away to one of my readers. I have not received any other compensation from MyBlogSpark.

I’ll draw for the gift card on Friday, April 2 at 12 p.m. central time. All entries must be in by 11:59 a.m. on April 2. The winner will receive an e-mail from me.
