On Wednesday, April 13, the Irving Arts Center will host two showings of the play “Peter Rabbit Tales,” based on the books by Beatrix Potter. The family-friendly play is sure to be enjoyed by audience members both young and old. Join the magical, marvelous World of Beatrix Potter™ as Peter, Flopsy and cousin, Benjamin embark on a daring rescue mission, reliving their childhood misadventures with Mr. McGregor and his cat along the way.

Great deal this week from AdPages – a buy-one-get-one deal on admissions to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. If you’ve never been, this is the perfect time to check it out. Fossil Rim is a 1,500-acre wildlife preserve in Glen Rose that’s home to many exotic species, including cheetahs, wolves, giraffes, rhinos and more. Admission is normally $25 per adult on the weekends, but you’ll save half with the AdPages deal if you bring two people.

If you pick up the deal, you will have until Dec. 31 to use it. It’s not valid on holidays, however.

Free & Fun: First Friday at Nash Farm

This Friday, Sept. 4, Nash Farm in Grapevine will host its monthly First Fridays on the Farm series from 10 a.m. to noon. These events, designed for kids ages 3 and up, will introduce participants to what it was like to live on a farm many years ago. The theme for this month is “Craftsmanship.” Farmers relied on many craftspeople to keep their farms running, and this month’s workshop will focus on these crafts and trades.

Activities include a soccer game, traditional Nigerian dance lessons, musical performances, and more. There will also be a vendor area, so bring some money for food and shopping! See a complete schedule of events here.

Rock the Park in Keller

There will be plenty of live entertainment (see a schedule here), culminating in a fireworks show at 10 p.m.! Food trucks will also be on site to provide refreshments. If you have kids, visit the Rockin’ Kidz Zone, which has activities like jousting, an obstacle course, bungees and more. All-access tickets to the Kidz Zone are $20 per person; otherwise, you can pay $1-3 per activity individually.

South Street Art Festival in Arlington

This is the second annual installation of this festival, which features the work of 75 artists from across the country. Come to the festival – admission is free – and check out their work. You can also hear live performances from 10 local bands – see a music schedule here. Bring your appetite for the many food vendors that will be on hand. (No coolers are allowed.) Well-behaved, leashed dogs can come along.

Hours of the festival are 5-11 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Find parking details here. A map of the festival attractions can be found here.

Note for those who have kids: the festival’s website says, “While supervised young children and teenagers are welcome, there are no activities specifically planned for them.”

Free Event: Irving Main Street

Come to the Irving Heritage District this weekend, Sept. 19-20, for Irving Main Street, an event celebrating the city’s “hometown feel.” The family-friendly event includes live music, the Manifolds on Main Street Car Show, free rides and activities for children, food and shopping. Admission is free on both days!  Friday evening features live music and free children’s activities.  On Saturday the festival expands to include a car show, additional children’s entertainment and a wide variety of vendors selling crafts, jewelry, décor, apparel and more.  ATMs will be available onsite.
